French at Hackham East Primary School

Bonjour tout le monde! (Hello everyone!)
This term in French has flown by and classes are already near completing an entire unit’s work. We will now be finding out all about Christmas and holidays in France and learning a whole-school French Christmas song.
Castle students have been exploring ‘Peppa Cochon’s famille’ (Peppa Pig’s family). They have learnt eight different family members through a variety of games, books and labelling worksheets. Students now know that ‘ma’ is the feminine ‘my’ and ‘mon’ is used for the masculine ‘my’. They have also been discovering new French words through the ‘Madeline Detectives’ books and have now begun learning the French Christmas song, ‘Mon Arbre Vert’ (My Green Tree) for the school concert.
Stillwell students have spent time learning about ‘Ma Maison’ (My House) and over the weeks have discovered the words for different rooms and spaces in the home. They have been noticing similarities of French words to English words, such as ‘toilettes’, ‘jardin’ and ‘réfrigérateur’ and used the correct masculine, feminine and plural articles of ‘the’ and ‘a’ to write sentences to describe each space. Students have been creating individual books with words and drawings about their houses to share with the younger year levels. Stillwell classes will now be looking at and learning the song, ‘Mon Arbre Vert’ to sing at the school concert.
Holly classes have continued with their food theme from last term and have learnt about, explored through iPad games, and researched different ‘nourriture’ (food) words. They have worked well both in small groups, pairs and individually to present their findings in a variety of different ways. Students used the masculine and feminine articles ‘le/la’ and ‘un/une’ along with the plural forms for ‘the’ and ‘some’ when recording their words. Holly students are looking forward to partaking in a French cooking lesson in the coming weeks. They have also translated the song, ‘Mon Arbre Vert’ from French to English and will now be learning it to sing at the school concert.
Merci beaucoup to all students for their efforts and positive mindsets this year. I will miss everyone next year when I take time off to have mon bébé (my baby), but will be sure to visit and find out all about their French learning in 2019. Merci to parents and staff for your support of my role and of the French curriculum over these past few years. I have thoroughly enjoyed working at Hackham East Primary School and feel so much joy seeing each student grow and use courage and persistence in this sometimes challenging yet rewarding subject area.
Joyeux Noël à vous et une heureuse Nouvelle Année (Merry Christmas to you and a happy New Year!)
