It can be easier to run away from feelings of being nervous than to show courage to turn around and confront them. But if we spend our lives running from the word ‘no’ then we deny ourselves the opportunities that follow the word ‘yes’.
In Term 1 Quentin Reweti-Bell was one of 8 Hackham East students selected to represent Onkaparinga North at the Softball State Championships. At the end of the carnival, Quentin used his courage to face his nerves and attend an open trial for the Boys State Team to compete at the National Championships. Quentin has spent the past week representing South Australia in Canberra and hit a home run in his first game against Victoria.
I would like to acknowledge old scholar Willow Ralston as a dual code Rugby player, having won selection in the girls under 15 State Rugby League team and in the girls State 7’s Rugby Union team. Willow is a former Jaune House Captain and graduate of the class of 2015. She is remembered as a student who consistently applied herself in Health and PE and for her upstanding citizenship to speak up and lift the effort and manners of those around her in pursuit of reaching their personal best. We wish Willow the best of luck as she competes in the Rugby 7’s National Championships this weekend.
In 2019 the Government of South Australia will begin offering all primary aged students a $100.00 voucher to encourage participation in sport. Students will be offered $100.00 every year from 2019 until 2022 to put towards sport registration fees.
Following the success of our Sports Day, the Football Federation of South Australia has offered to run an 8 week clinic in Term 1 next year on Wednesdays at Hackham East Primary School oval between 3:10pm and 4:10pm in exchange for the 2019 voucher. This clinic will include:
Notes will be sent home with a copy of the voucher soon. Should you choose to register your child to participate, please return the completed form to the Finance Officer before Week 2 (8/2) Term 1, 2019.
If you choose to put your voucher towards a different sport and would still like to participate, a payment of $100.00 may be made to the Finance Officer instead.
Further details of how to use the Government Voucher may be found at the attached link:

Last month Tori Hay and I took 24 Year 3/4 students to the inaugural ANZ Tennis Hot Shot Primary School Competition for grades 3 and 4.
Tennis SA, in conjunction with SAPSASA, offered a pathway for our students to participate in tennis during the school day. The Day used modified equipment, modified scoring systems, mixed gender teams and the entire day was set to an amazing mix of music that had just about everybody dancing. The competition had the opportunity for our students to progress to regional finals and on to state championships where they could win the opportunity to attend the World Tennis Challenge event. Our students played well but we did not finish in a position to move on to the regional finals however, our students were celebrated for their friendliness and sportsmanship on and off the court. Special mention to Seamus Stafford and Riley Davis who received a special award for sportsmanship.
We are so proud of our students and the way they display our School Values, consistently.
