Magis

6/9/18
This weekend as part of the Magis program, John XXIII will compete for the first time in the British Parliamentary Debating Competition at Hale School on Sunday with three senior teams. A number of top Magis students will also compete in the WA Tournament of Minds finals in one of our two teams on Sunday. Good luck to everyone for success in these prestigious events. Our Opti-MINDS year 7 team also performed well at last week’s event and has won honours for their creative presentation.
The final Magis Intra-school competitive challenge, Creative Thinking, which is based on a former Tournament of Minds/Opti-MINDS challenge, has been taking place this week. Because of the departure of year 12 student as and examinations and other events in term 4, the Magis 2018 competition concludes this term, although activities including the World Scholars America tour will take place next term. Final Magis Awards for all year groups will be presented in week three of term four, combining with the Year 7 personal project opening.
After success in John XXIII College’s first ever World Scholars Global round, our senior team of Ben Linsten, Alex Panther and Emily Tyson, our most successful team at the global round, will compete in the World Scholars Tournament of Champions at the famous Yale University in America in November. This is one of the major Magis highlights of the year, and it is hoped that the excellent performances by all seven John XXIII College teams in the WA regionals, and the four teams at the Melbourne Global round, and now participation at the World Championship event in Yale, will lay the foundations for continued growth of our participation in this prestigious event.
