SkillsWest Career Expo Visit

The Careers and Enterprise class attended the SkillsWest Expo at the Perth Convention Centre last Friday. It was a fantastic display of a large range of career options and pathways that are available.  Our students were able to experience a range of interactive activities and gain valuable information as they explored the expo.

Book week 2018

Each year across Australia, the CBCA brings children and books together to celebrate CBCA Book Week. Book Week remains a greatly loved tradition at John XXIII College and this year was no exception.

The theme of Book Week, ‘Find Your Treasure’ brought out everyone’s inner 'Pirate' whether it be wearing pirate hats, exploring the wonderful selection of nominated books, pulling our real-life Clifford the Red Dog’s tail, entering competitions, or playing board games.

Our celebration of books continues next week. We will host celebrated authors James Foley and Michael Gerard Bauer to the College.

The only true equalisers in the world are books: the only treasure-house open to everybody is a library, the only wealth which will never decay is knowledge; the only jewel which you can carry beyond the grave is wisdom'.   J. A. Langford

Ward House Day

This week we celebrate Mary Ward, one of the Colleges three Founders.

Ward House is a House that prides itself on displaying a positive attitude in all we do. We try to bring joy and happiness to others, the 'Ward Flash Mob' being a prime example. Students of Ward House have been busy with preparations for this unique event and at recess on Thursday, the pavilion was alive with a buzz of excitement. Ward House students were ready and when 'Dynamite' started to play, we moved in and started to dance. The routine was simply choreographed but joyous for all involved, spectators included. When the music stopped, the applause started and it was great to see staff and students having a great time.

At the Ward House assembly, the ‘Ward Story’ was told by way of a well versed rap by the Year 12 students. The rap was well received by the House and special guest Sister Tess even gave it a 11/10. Well done Year 12’s.

We then enjoyed a meal together in the sunshine on the D-block lawn. A truly beautiful way to end a fantastic day.

A special thank you must go out to all the students and staff who helped out on the day, a special mention for those staying after school, giving up their time to cook for Shopfront. The enthusiasm to be involved is amazing and it makes for a very enjoyable environment.

John XXIII Day Celebrations

John XXIII Day saw the conclusion of yet another fabulous Founders’ Time. During this time, we have enjoyed reflecting on our Founders, Pope John XXIII, Mary Ward and Ignatius Loyola. As a College community we have shared stories and had a wide variety of activities to celebrate this time providing wonderful opportunity to stop, reflect and discern in the tradition of our Jesuit Founders.

John XXIII Day is a great fundraising event for the College with all funds helping various charities. Thank you to the entire community for your wonderful help and support on John XXIII Day.
