Around The Primary

Dear Parents

Children’s Book Week throws the spotlight each year on reading and on the importance and joy of being able to read.  Our challenge as educators and also for parents is to make every week a ‘book week’ and by example, encourage children to read every day.  By modelling good reading habits we we help children to discover the absolute joy in curling up on the couch with a favourite book.

A student who is reading regularly each day is most likely to read better and comprehend, know more about the world, write better, have a more extensive vocabulary, be successful at school, and feel more confident as a learner.

Our teachers and Library team are only too willing to assist your child to find the reading material that interests them. All parents are welcome to visit the Library with their children before or after school each day. Let’s all encourage children to put aside the electronic devices to read each day.

We were thoroughly entertained by the Year 2B pirates and the Primary Singers at today’s Assembly Special thanks to Mrs Ferraro, Mrs Haydon and Mrs Cattapan for preparing the students so well for their wonderful performances.

Special thanks to everyone for your amazing efforts to organise the costumes for Pirate Day. It was a great finale to Book Week.

We look forward to seeing many Dads and their children at our Father’s Day Mass next Friday 31 August at 7:30pm in the gym. It would be greatly appreciated if all families could register their attendance on trybooking    https://www.trybooking.com/411896

Kind regards

In Geography the Year 2s have been learning all about the seven continents of the world. After researching information about each continent, the students worked with a partner to create a Clip illustrating the order of the continents from smallest to largest and outlining two facts about each continent. The geographical knowledge, collaboration skills and digital technology skills displayed was amazing! Well done Year 2!

A big thank you to Nicholas Maroni (2B) and Sophie Marchant (2B) for sharing their informative Clip.

Grandparents are Great

On Wednesday my grandparents, Norbert Funke, Christel Funke, John Travlos and Pipina Travlos, visited both Year 4 classes to share stories and information about their travels through Africa. My classmates loved seeing their photos and videos and hearing about African animals, major rivers, the education system and water conservation. I think I am very lucky to have had my grandparents come to school to share their vast knowledge in such a personal way.

Fabulous Fives!

This term the year 5’s have been studying Earth and Space Sciences. The students worked  collaboratively in small groups to create mini model of the solar system. The students were fantastic at working out the correct size of the planets and the order of the planets from the sun.
