CBCA BOOKWEEK IS COMING
Bookweek will run from Saturday 19 to Saturday 26 August. Each year across Australia, The CBCA brings children and books together celebrating CBCA Children’s Book Week. During this time schools, libraries, booksellers, authors, illustrators and children celebrate Australian children's literature. (CBCA - Children’s Book Council of Australia).
YEAR 7 – JAMES PHELAN (AUTHOR)
During bookweek, Year 7 students will hear a talk from James Phelan. He is the popular children’s author of The Last 13; which is a 13-part serialised thriller series for young readers (aimed at ages 8-15) and counts down from 13 to 1. Students have found his talks very entertaining and leave the session wanting to read his books. Search “James Phelan” in the library catalogue for a complete list of his books in the library. MANDY ORD (COMIC ARTIST)
Mandy Ord will be talking to the Year 8 students. She is a Melbourne-based comic artist. Her work has appeared in The Age, Meanjin, The Australian Rationalist magazine, Voiceworks, Tango, Going Down Swinging and Red Leaves / 紅葉. Students will be introduced to the wonderful world of graphic novels. No longer the poor cousin of books, graphic novels have emerged as a dynamic new story-telling format that encompasses not only super heroes but thought provoking coverage of world events. Mandy keeps in touch with world via her blogspot.
