Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden

Week 1

Welcome back grades 5 and 6! We had an abundance of fresh ingredients to work with last week, including lots of eggs from our chickens. Students made spinach, leek, zucchini and ricotta fritters served with a rocket and red onion salad. The ricotta gave the fritters a delicious creaminess. Whilst zucchini is not in season we used some frozen grated zucchini. This is one example of how to prolong the use of a harvest, especially zucchinis. If you've grown zucchini before, you'll know you end up with more than you can cope with in the summer!

At the end of this term, grade 5/6 students will be making a three course meal to share with their class. Each group was  allocated entree, main or dessert. Students will need to consider special dietary requirements and cooking time when selecting a recipe. We look forward to viewing their proposed menu in a couple of weeks.

In need of eggs?

Our girls are laying! Surplus eggs will be made available to interested families through a raffle system for $4 per dozen. The money will assist with the upkeep and feeding of our hens.

If you would like to participate in the raffle, please complete the form at the office and place in the blue box. In the event of surplus eggs, when you are drawn out, we will notify you by phone.
