6-8 Partnerships for the Future

The Partnerships for the Future classroom have continued on with their new topic, where the students have continued to work on the OLOP garden at the back of the College.  The pupils have started to design and create individual activities for the garden that are of interest.  At the moment, we currently have the following occupations and 'trades' being undertaken each afternoon.

  • Four students designing garden beds.
  • Four students laying the bricks.
  • Eight students managing their own native indigenous vegetable and fruit garden.
  • Two students are using the 3D printer to design labels for their plants and vegetables.
  • Two students have organised an indigenous community member to teach the students the meaning behind indigenous artwork and culture.
  • Four students have decided that they will manage the irrigation for the plants.

Aboriginal culture and beliefs, Dreamtime stories and the science behind plantation are a focus in the student's current curriculum classroom activities. Watch this space throughout the term.

TA - Weeks 1-3

We have commenced the term with our goal-setting activities. Students are creating a goal using the SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely) acronym where the students have had to use the Personal and Social rubric to self assess their current learning habits. This rubric looks great on the fridge at home. After this self-assessment, the students are working towards achieving TA goals through the implementation of their own strategies.

This term we continue to focus on teaching the students skills to help self manage individually and in social interactions, as well as having the students explore options for keeping safe on the internet using their school and home devices.   Not only are we having a strong focus of enhancing our spelling across our community in our classrooms but throughout our TA lessons, we have dedicated each Thursday as an additional spelling opportunity. This looks like a range of spelling games between each TA.

Can we please remind students that TA commences at 8:50am and finishes at 9:10am and that students are expected to bring their school devices to these explicit lessons.
