Magis report

This weekend the Magis Year 7 and 8 camp will be held at the beautiful Point Walter Campsite in Bicton.  There will be workshops by two outstanding external presenters, David Castelellani from Alpha motivation and Kathy Boyatzis, the WA Director of Opti-MINDSand Creative Edge Thinking.  In addition four senior Magis leaders, Ben Linsten, Alex Panther, Nick Brennan and Genevieve Fergusson-Allen will deliver keynote addresses, and there will be a range of other items on the program including a Quiz Night and a Talent Show. Warmest thanks to Mrs Alison O’Connor who will again be assisting at the camp. There will be a full pictorial report in next week’s newsletter.

The WA Debating League has now released details of this year’s British Parliamentary Debating Competitions which commences this weekend.  Students have a choice of four dates Friday or Saturday 15 or 16 August and 22 and 23 August.  Teams, which consist of two students only compete on ONE of the listed  days only. Students must submit teams no later than Tuesday, and final information will  be distributed on Thursday or as soon as it becomes available from WADL.

Good luck to the Mock Trial Team competing at the Supreme Court on Tuesday evening, and special thanks to Ms Daisy Farley and Ms Morgan Ball for their wonderful assistance to the team. It is now just three weeks to the Opti-MINDS Challenge Day where we will have four John XXIII Teams competing. Their challenge presentations will be filmed in the GBLT with each group allocated one period  on Friday morning 28 August. Special thanks to Mr Damien who is facilitating the Science-Engineering teams, and to Mr Sam Tout and Ms Lisa Martlella who are assisting with filming and production.

The Magis House Academic Challenge Program continues with the STEM Challenge for Year 11 and 12 on Tuesday morning at 8:35am in the GBLT. Year 7 to 10 STEM Challenges will take place in week 5. Good luck to all houses! The response to this new House section for Magis has been terrific.
