PRAYER

This Saturday, 8 August, is the Feast Day of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.  Mary Help of Christians (Our Lady) was the first Patron Saint of Australia. In recent years St Mary of the Cross MacKillop was made our second Patron Saint.    Please think of an intention and in honour of our second Patron Saint of Australia we pray:

THIS WEEK

Harry Potter day in the JRC

The boys loved the Harry Potter day in the library. A picture tells a 100 words.  Here are a few thousand words.

THURSDAY

We will follow the same format as last week. All boys will attend school for the first two periods and then we will bus (5 buses) down to Oxford Falls for recess, sport and lunch.  If you choose to pick up your son, it will be from 1.30 pm to 1.45 pm in front of the Christian Brother’s Centre. This is the plan for the remainder of the term unless you are informed otherwise.

SATURDAY SPORT

Last weekend was another great day of sport for the boys.  This weekend there may be rain so please ensure you have your Twitter account up to date in case of a wet weather message.  This week one parent will be allowed at Oxford Falls.  The under 12 Rugby are playing Redfields.

On the draw the 11 traditional rugby was TBC.  The 11As  are playing against Trinity at TGS 3 at 8.45 am.  TGS 3 is at Trinity Grammar School , opposite 169 Victoria St, Ashfield NSW 2131. ( https://goo.gl/maps/mZBLBvFp4mz9mVVp6 )

Another thousand words - the mighty 12C football team.

Future events

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 the Father and Son afternoon at Oxford Falls has to be cancelled.  The Walkathon will go ahead as it happens in school time.  It is a time when boys are walking for those less fortunate than themselves.  More information about this event will be distributed in the coming weeks.

This week's Highlights:

This week in our non-fiction collection our spotlight is on the 200’s Religion. History of Christianity, Natural Theology, Other and Comparative Religions.  Check out some of the most borrowed books in the 100's. #SPXJRC

“Happee Birthdae Harry”

Friday 31 July was Harry Potter’s birthday, the wizard born from the pen of J. K. Rowling. The writer has indicated the precise date of birth: July 31 (moreover the same day on which she was born) 1980.  We celebrated in the JRC with all things magical and encouraging all to read or re-read the Harry Potter series. When the first book of the saga, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, came out in 1997, JK Rowling certainly could not even have imagined that she had just created a worldwide phenomenon. The seven books and eight films dedicated to the wizard have excited more than one generation.

New Library Monitors have joined the existing team for 2020.

Ben Fogale and Liam Spatola.

Noah Watson in Year 5 took this amazing photo of our new Library Monitors for Semester 2.  He brought in his green screen and took the photo and edited it at home to place in the Woodchatta.

Great Work Noah!

Mrs Martin's Book Trail:  The Secrets of Magnolia Moon by Edwina Wyatt. Reading my way through the CBCA shortlist. A sweet and quaint story of a girl who can speak to the moon, she has a vivid imagination and is a very good friend to have. Reminds me of the Famous Five era. A special book for those with like-minded imaginations.  #mrsmartinsbooktrail2020
