Fixtures for 8 August

Mr Simon Yue - Senior Football Convenor

ISA Tennis

Last weekend gave us beautiful weather for our Round 2 matches.  Unfortunately there were no victories on the day, however, all our players played well and showed the usual high level of sportsmanship and courtesy to their teammates and opponents.

This weekend our teams are playing against a variety of teams at a range of venues, so please check the draw below. Also, you can check the SPX App for regular sport updates and wet weather information.

Players are reminded that training is compulsory and a note from a parent or doctor is needed if a session is missed. Unfortunately, there are a few players who will be receiving a Friday detention if they miss another training session.

Just a reminder that all players must attend wearing their full tennis uniform - white shorts, school sports shirt, school tennis cap and school tracksuit (if cold).  Also, in case of injury or illness, please endeavour to advise us as soon as possible so that we can arrange for Reserve players to be available.

Winter Squash

Round 1 Results

Post COVID-19 lockdown has resulted in SPX’s first winter squash season taking the form of 16 players representing the school in an individual Swiss draw competition.

Elliot Inman (Yr 12), our Division One representative, played very well to narrowly miss out on victory in a tough 5 set match. He will benefit from the run in his future matches.

Other SPX players competed in Divisions 3-6, with strong wins recorded for: Gilbert Davie (Yr 12), Harry Clayton (Yr 12), Darcy Keenlyside (Yr 9), and Benjamin Buono (Yr 7).

Regardless of Round 1 results, the Swiss draw ensures that all players will have matches to play at Thornleigh over the following two weeks. Round 1 match times will remain in place for the tournament.

We wish all our representative players good luck for the remainder of the tournament and congratulate them on their efforts to date.

Mr Justin Varjavandi, Squash Convenor

Debating

Last Friday we travelled to Marist College Eastwood and our 12A, 9A (Year 8 students masking as a Year 9 team—WHAT!!!  and they won 😊😊😊), 8B, & 7A and 7B were all successful on the night. Congratulations to all debaters.  We did have an interesting train trip to Eastwood: I had so much fun on the train asking them to smile for these photos.

This Friday, 7 August, is our first hosting event.  Gilroy College will be arriving at SPX at around 5.30 pm. As always, the health and safety of our students and broader community is our primary concern.

Our onsite COVID-19 protocols, to be complied with by visiting schools, are listed below for your information.

  1. Complete the visitor log and bring with you on the night.
  2. Students and staff will be asked to sanitise on arrival.
  3. If a student or staff member is unwell or showing any flu-like signs or symptoms they are not to attend.
  4. Sanitiser will be available in all rooms, and all desks will be sanitised prior to any use.
  5. There will be no physical contact between students - no handshaking or close greeting.  All attendees will practise social distancing of 1.5 metres all night.
  6. At no stage are any parents or visitors allowed on site.  Please drop your students at the gate and inform parents not to enter school grounds.  Parents can drop off and collect their children in Kirk Street but they cannot drive into the school. It would help if your staff could notify visiting parents in advance and assist with monitoring the entry point to save any unnecessary embarrassment.
  7. No food or drink will be distributed to guests.
