Games with the parachute

Infants

Year 2/3

Welcome back to Term 3, Year 2/3 have had a busy start to the term. The students have been getting back into their class routines and are enjoying working with their friends during literacy and maths groups.

For the first few weeks of this term, students will be focussing on improving their sentence writing skills by ensuring they are using punctuation, adjectives, adverbs, adding detail and connectives. We have created a 'bump it up' wall to help us set our own goals to work towards.

Students have been talking a lot about 'Active Listening' in class and they displayed how well they can listen to and follow instructions by completing a visualising activity called 'What is a nogard?' Check out our pictures and see if you can figure out what a nogard is.

We made the most of the afternoon sun on Friday and took the parachute out for sport. Students had a great time playing lots of games together and they quickly worked out that when they all worked together the games were a lot of fun.

Miss Downey I Year 2/3 Teacher

Primary

It has been a very busy start to Term 3 across both the primary school classrooms. We welcome new students Charlie into the 3/4 class, and Angel into the 5/6 class and want to congratulate them both on a great start to their learning here at Boorowa Central School!

Year 3/4 Class

Year 3/4 have had a great start to the term and are engaging in some new and exciting learning activities. In English, we have started reading Dr Seuss's book, The Lorax, and have produced some great pieces of writing related to the book while learning about the importance of caring for the environment. We have a few more weeks of activities before we can watch the movie and compare the two.

In Maths we are undertaking some iMaths investigations to learn about fractions. We are looking forward to the challenge of the investigations and sharing our learning as a class. In art, we have been making 'Bird Art' collages. The students have worked hard to make amazing artworks, keep an eye out for these on our Facebook page this week.

Year 5/6 Class

In the 5/6 class, we've had the pleasure of having Miss Andrews teach the class so far this term. Miss Andrews is a professional experience student on the final placement of her degree through the University of Canberra. The class have been busy learning about 2D space in mathematics, reading a class text and writing descriptions and personal responses on 'The Nothing To See Here Hotel' in English, and exploring graffiti art in Visual Arts. We look forward to another fun two weeks with Miss Andrews.

We had a visit from the Member for Hume, the Honorable Angus Taylor MP on Friday 24 July. It was great to have Mr Taylor join in our class lesson on 'coding' using the 'GROK for Learning' platform. Mr Stuart and our brilliant office staff helped secure a Local Schools Community Fund grant at the end of last year which allowed us to purchase 13 brand new laptops and a recharge trolley station. Mr Taylor and his staff were here to see that grant in action, and the kids showed their skills in creating a 'Space Invaders' game from scratch! We thank Mr Taylor for his assistance in providing this grant, and all of our students from Kindergarten to Year 6 will be able to benefit from regular access to laptops to support their learning.

We hope that our parents and carers have supported our Parent/Teacher evenings this week, and please remember to get in contact with your child's teacher if you ever have any questions or concerns about your child here at Boorowa Central School.

Here's to another great fortnight of learning in our primary classrooms.
