Grades 2/3

Welcome to Term 3

We hope the first week of Remote Learning has been easier than what you expected. We have taken into account the feedback provided by the community and have done some changes. We want to thank you again for all your patience and collaboration. 

We have seen some incredible work being submited by the students and are very proud of them all. 

We would like to thank students for acting and behaving appropriately during Remote Learning. The way students have been interacting and collaborating on Microsoft Teams has been fantastic and the teachers have really been impressed with the care and effort students have been taking upon completing Seesaw activities. 

This is the timetable for the duration of the Remote Learning:

Reading - Developing fluency and Sustained Reading

Writing - Explanation writing and Sustained Writing 

Mathematics - Addition and 3D objects 

Inquiry - Geography, Around the world in 50 days, How are we similar and different?

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parent Teacher Interviews are on Thursday 30th July (next week). The interviews will be held via Microsoft Teams.

Please make sure that you have booked a time with your child's teacher on Sentral before Monday 27th July.

You will an receive an invitation in your email on Tuesday 28th. Once you receive this email, please accept the invitation to notify the teacher that you have received it.

Welcome to Adam who has join 2/3A and Martina who will be working with Cass as a Pre Service Teacher for the next 3 weeks. 

Literacy 

In Reading students will be focusing on developing fluency. They did a great job of recording themselves reading and marking themselves on our fluency rubric. This helps them to know what they are doing well and shows areas they can focus on. We will also be continuing our Sustained Reading program. This will include continuing to read our classroom novel 'Gangsta Granny' but also proving students time to complete independent reading and providing summaries of the texts they read. 

Mathematics 

In Mathematics students have begun to explore the concept of Addition. They have shared their knowledge of Addition and worked through some games including rolling dice to create sums and completing Addition pyramids. All activities have required students to use a range of strategies to assist them to solve problems. Over the next few weeks  we will be focusing on specific Addition strategies some including number lines, Friends of 20 and doubles facts. Students have also begun focusing on 3D objects. They have been learning vocab in Spanish and relating 3D objects to real life objects. They are also exploring the features that make up 3D objects. 

Inquiry 

Our Term 3 Inquiry topic is one to be excited about! 'Around The World In 50 Days'. We will be focusing on Geography and looking at different places around the world. It may be the closest thing we get to a holiday for the time being. To begin our unit we have looked at countries we all come from and places that mean something special to us. We have also looked at Australia and its States and Capital Cities and different sports around the world.
