FAQs about staying safe at CSC

Frenquently Asked Questions

How are we keeping our enviroment safe at school?

  • Continuing extension of routine environmental cleaning, including progressive cleaning throughout the day to ensure that risks of transmission are reduced for high-touch services.
  • Supplying staff with hand sanitiser for all rooms, detergent, antibacterial wipes and cloth.
  • Providing adequate anti-bacterial wipes for students to wipe down equipment (that’s not washed in a sink, etc.).
  • Providing hand sanitiser wall stations across the college.
  • Carefully considering the necessity of using shared items or equipment e.g.: shared computers, class sets of teaching and learning materials, musical instruments etc at this time.
  • Practising hand hygiene immediately before and after use of shared equipment.
  • Cleaning student and staff toilets will be cleaned three times a day.
  • Cleaning ‘high touch’ areas (door handles, internal handrails, etc.) to be cleaned twice a day.
  • Cleaning tables / benches to be cleaned regularly.

Who is allowed or not allowed onsite?

  • All unwell staff and students must stay home.
  • Parents/carers of students with complex medical needs (including those with compromised immune systems), should seek advice from the student’s medical practitioner to support decision-making about whether on-site education is suitable, noting that this advice may change depending on the status of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Victoria. This is in line with the DET Health Care Needs policy.
  • Visitors to school grounds will be limited to those delivering or supporting essential school services and operations (e.g. student health and wellbeing services, specialist curriculum programs, maintenance workers). Allowance to remaining onsite will be the outcome of visitors responses to a Covid-19 Self Assessment.
  • The College requests that parents/carers wishing to discuss any matters with a staff member to first use either an email or phone call. If a face-to face meeting is needed, it must meet the physical distancing requirements of 1.5m between adults.

Who can be on site for learning ?

1) All students who can work from home must do so.

The permitted exceptions are:

•             Children whose parents cannot work from home

•             Vulnerable children

•             Any child with a disability

If you believe your child meets one of these exempt categories, please contact Mr Hird via Reception to discuss on-site supervision options for your child at school. Students who attend school will be undertaking the same Remote Learning as they would be if they were working from home.

Please note the following arrangements for students attending school:

  • School busses will continue to operate.
  • The canteen will not be open (students will need to bring their own food).
  • Neat casual dress will be permitted instead of school uniform.

2) Remote Learning will be delivered primarily through Google Classrooms.

Most students should still have access to their Google Classrooms from Term Two, and teachers have been instructed to remind their students of the log-in codes.

Bus Travel - What does that look like now?

  • The two front rows of seats on the buses are be cordoned off (8 seats) – for separation for the driver.
  • Students bring their own sanitizer for before/during and after the bus trip this will enable them to enter/exit the bus without spending time next to the driver sanitizing.
  • No food or drink on the school buses - this is to avoid cleaners handling rubbish.
  • Social distancing – as normal we will pick up all students that present at a bus stop.
    • As we know some services will be at capacity and social distancing will not be possible, where it is we would expect the students to observe social distancing.
  • The drivers arel not be expected to enforce social distancing on the buses.
  • If Drivers are concerned with the health of a student that travels- it will be reported to school either directly or via the relevant coordinator.
  • Castlemaine Bus Lines are completing extra cleaning and wiping down of surfaces of the buses and this will continue as required.
  • Only students registered are to travel on country buses (and only the bus they are registered on).

Social distancing at school

What does that look like for on site learning?

  • We ask staff and parents/carers to observe physical distancing measures by not congregating in areas inside or around the school [including the school and staff car parks].
  • To minimise interaction of students and adults within the school and at entry points we:
    • request students are dropped off as quickly as possible at the designated points in and around the school.
    • request that parents only enter the school grounds when essential to do so and to contact the school by phone or email where appropriate instead.
    • encourage non-contact greetings.
  • We will have a maximum of 50 students in any given indoor area (Gym, Library common space, etc.)
  • School assemblies, excursions, camps and other non-essential large gatherings are postponed.
