Term 3

Remote Learning

We have changed a few elements of how Specialist Days will run during remote Learning. Specialist Teachers will host a Zoom meeting for 5/6 students on Monday and 3/4 students on Tuesday. We will be able to describe our lesson and answer any immediate questions, as well as provide examples in real-time. At this stage, we are not planning any live video lessons for Junior School students beyond what is set in their Seesaw lessons.

Student work will continue to be uploaded onto Seesaw for Junior students and Google Classroom for Senior students. We ask that 3-6 students upload their specialist work into the relevant folder on Seesaw.

Timetable:

9:30 - Music

9:45 - PE

11:00 - Indonesian

11:15 - Art

Selamat datang kembali!

The big changes just keep on rolling! For those who were unaware, Mrs Brisbane is no longer teaching PE, having moved into the 5/6 classrooms. While she will be missed, I am very excited to get to teach the Senior students as well as the Juniors from now until the end of the year!

While we aren't able to be face-to-face for teaching, the senior students will still be following a similar schedule to that which was already planned. This will include alternating weeks of fitness based activities and more sport oriented focus, beginning with athletics, followed by basketball, and finishing with cricket. I am also making an effort to reflect student voice in my planning, beginning with a student survey in Week 1!

Some equipment will be required in later weeks. These will include items like tennis balls, basketballs and bats, but alternatives can be suggested for those unable to access particular resources.

The Junior School will be following in a similar, but more simplified, vein to Term 2, with more choice board activities. The main aim will be to help develop those necessary fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, striking, kicking, throwing and catching.

Week 1 will be an easy transition back into remote learning, including a very funny game to celebrate Indonesian Day, which only requires a pen or pencil, a bottle and some string.

Terima kasih!

Happy art making

Performing Arts

Welcome back! This term students will have lots of fun and creative opportunities in their Performing Arts Lessons.  Unfortunately due to remote learning there will be no Junior Production this year.  Mount Pleasant's Got Talent may still be a possibility to go ahead in Term 4 when we are back on school grounds.

Foundation - Dramatic Play

In Performing Arts this term, the Juniors will be focusing on Drama. Each weekly activity will ask the students to use their body, voice and facial expressions to explore a variety of feelings and scenarios. Foundation students will focus on expressing their emotions through song and storytelling tasks.

Year 1/2 - Fairytale Fun

Watch-out for witches and princesses this term as students will have the opportunity to act out some of their favourite Fairytale characters.  Students will develop vocal and physical technique as they bring Fairytale characters to life.

Year 3/4 - Kitchen music

Can you feel the beat???? It may be coming from the kitchen.  Students will consolidate their learning and build their musical knowledge from playing, creating and performing musical pieces.

Year 5/6 - Jingle all the way

Creativity and a persuasive mind will be tested this term as students put their dramatic and musical skills to the test. I'm already excited to see what the students will create and I know that I will be thoroughly entertained.

Senior Choir - I will be running Senior Choir at 11.30 on Mondays.  There will be a Zoom meeting setup with all details sent out on Google Classroom for the students to join.

And lastly and most importantly......Let's dance it out.  Just because we are back to remote learning does not mean that we cant have some fun and have a dance. I have attached a whole school dance for the whole family to join in.

Enjoy, have fun and stay safe,

Ms. Cosgriff and Mrs. Andrews

Indonesian

Selamat datang kembali! Welcome back to Term 3!

Indonesian Day is going to look different this year - Specialists have worked hard to include an activity to focus on Indonesia or Indonesian culture throughout the week for classes. This Friday will be "Indonesian Day" - watch out for the Indonesian clothes staff will be wearing for their check-in! There may even be a video of staff using their Indonesian skills - keep your eye out in the newsletter next week!

What a perfect time to try and cook some Indonesian foods - my personal favourites are nasi goreng, mie goreng dan sate. These are classics, but you could also try your hand at bakso, rendang or even an Indonesian dessert such as klepon or dadar gulung!

You can skip the first step if you buy shredded or desiccated coconut. This is a great one to make with the family! You can find pandan essence in Asian Supermarkets. Remember - a little goes a long way!

In our Senior School this term, students have brainstormed and voted for what they would most like to learn about - and I'm really excited to say that 3/4 students are learning about Indonesian Art and 5/6 is looking at food and recipes.

In the Junior School, Foundation will be learning how to answer how they are feeling, and 1/2 students will be learning how to write and tell simple stories in Indonesian. I will endeavour to keep to the Statement of Intent as close as possible (using my character strengths of perseverance and creativity!)

Terima kasih,

Bu Marissa Mundy
