Curriculum

Welcome back to Term 3! We hope you all had a chance to rest and recuperate over the holidays and enjoy some leisurely activities together. The 5/6 teachers were so proud of all of the hard work students put in during both Remote Learning and on site throughout Term 2 and all students should be very proud of their work. We hope they enjoyed the learning experiences they participated in.

Students finalised a number of their projects in the last week of term and it was a highlight to see them complete them all. Students designed a mini-golf course using different mathematical skills including shapes, angles and distances as well as making design decisions. They also participated in a Golf morning comprising of four different golf activities including playing their own mini-golf hole creations. They completed their Word-Webs on the Term 2 class novel “Toad Rage”. Students listed the characters and events in the texts and described the connections and relationships between the characters through different descriptive sentences. Students also completed their Guided Inquiry projects on an Influential Australian. They researched their Influential Australian and presented their findings on posters or Powerpoint presentation. It was great to see students further extend themselves by dressing up and videoing themselves as their Influential Australian.

Onto Term 3. The 5/6 teachers are very excited to be re-connecting with the students again on our daily Zoom chats and seeing the wonderful work they will produce online. We would like to remind all students and families that it is okay if you don’t complete all learning tasks each day. We understand it is a very difficult and that the health of the students and families is the priority.

Just like Term 2, students' work will continue to be sent out through the Google Classroom app and students will be required to “hand-in” the work they have completed at the end of each day via Google Classroom. Teachers will go through the daily tasks each day in the morning Zoom check-ins and additional Zooms will be conducted to support any students that need some help with the work. We will also be conducting Guided Learning Zoom sessions for specific learning tasks, such as Book Club in Reading. Teachers will continue to provide daily feedback to students on their work. It won’t be for every piece of work that is submitted but on at least one learning task for the day.

This week we will conducting PAT testing in Maths and Reading. It's important to be aware that assessments indicate what we need to teach differently, revise or misconceptions that students have. It is important students complete assessments independently so that we can make adjustments that will meet their individual needs. We thank you in advance for your support during these particular sessions.

We look forward to another successful Remote Learning period! Please don’t hesitate to contact your child's teacher through Sentral if you have any questions or need any support.
