Stage 4 - Return to Remote Learning
The Victorian Government has announced that there is a further tightening of restrictions in view of the Covid-19 situation in Victoria. This includes a continuation of remote learning for Prep to Year 10 students and a return to remote learning for all VCE students from Wednesday 5 August.
This situation will not impact those students in Prep to Year 10 as we have and will continue to operate Heatherton@Home, until at least the end of Week 9 of this term.
Onsite Learning Program
We will also be continuing our onsite learning program for students whose parents are permitted workers and vulnerable children (e.g., those in out-of-home care or known to child protection, or medically/socially vulnerable children).
Parents, we do request that you abide by this directive and only send your child/ren to school if your employment is a permitted workplace/essential service as defined in the Newsfeed document. If you are permitted to go to work, you will be required to provide the College with a copy of your Permitted Workers Permit. In most cases, children should not be sent to school if you are at home.
The onsite learning program and OHSC will still be running in the Salt Café and you must notify the College office of this need. You will need to complete the online Onsite Learning Booking Form each week (a new link is posted on the Compass Newsfeed each Wednesday) so that we are able to staff the program accordingly and are aware of who needs to be there.
Grade 2 Puppet Play
In Grade 2, we have been looking at how we can treat people fairly, students had to act out two finger puppet play scenarios on the RIGHT way to treat someone and the WRONG way to treat someone. These videos were too cute to not share. Enjoy (please click on the student's name)!
Grade 2 Music
The Grade 2s have been studying form in music. The students had to improvise two instruments at home and film themselves playing to the music. Samuel Rathbone dressed up to perform and he looks so ”cute”. Click here to check out Samuel in action.
Year 11 Biology
Year 11 Biology students are studying cellular reproduction. They illustrate mitosis using jelly lollies.
National Science Week 2020
The school theme for National Science Week 2020 is Deep Blue: Innovations for the Future of our Oceans. HCC will be celebrating the event with the following H@H activities:
- From Monday 17/8 to Wednesday 19/8, there will be an Oceans Trivia in Homeroom for Upper Primary and Secondary students.
- On Thursday 20/8 and Friday 21/8, there will be a presentation on Innovations that could save our Oceans shown in Homeroom, also for Upper Primary and Secondary students.
- Year 7 to 10 students will also be able to enter the online Education Perfect Science Championships Competition from Tuesday 18/8 to Tue 25/8 to earn points individually and for HCC. There are certificates and prizes on offer.
Please note that alternative activities for the lower and middle primary students will be held during the week, planned by their teachers.
I hope we will all enjoy learning more about our oceans, and more importantly, how to look after them. Perhaps celebrate with some fish and chips while watching Shark Tale on Friday!

HCC Care Fund Relaunch
At the beginning of the first lockdown, we launched a special CARE fund to assist HCC families who have directly been impacted by Coronavirus, particularly with the loss of employment/reduced working hours. We are so grateful to the HCC families who donated to our HCC CARE fund. We had over $11,000 donated to the fund, most of which has now been allocated to families in need. Through the incredible generosity of our HCC community, we have been able to provide immediate financial assistance with school fees to families in genuine need in our community.
Unfortunately, due to the Stage 4 Lockdown we are now experiencing, many of our families are once again experiencing financial difficulties. Consequently, we have decided to relaunch the HCC Care Fund to provide alternative fee arrangements and prudent financial monitoring to assist families in genuine need. All donations to our scholarship fund have been and will be carefully allocated to any HCC family in great need who have been directly financially impacted by the Coronavirus, to assist with school fees.
We still have a need to assist families in need in our Community. You can join us by directly depositing a donation into the College bank account, details below.
