Identity and Mission

“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”

Acts 2:1-4

On Sunday, the Church celebrated their birthday with the feast of Pentecost. It marks the day when the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples of Jesus and gave them the power and confidence to preach the Good News. It was from this incident in Jerusalem that began the worldwide expansion of Christianity, making it now the biggest religion in the world.

We are invited at Pentecost to consider how the Holy Spirit works in us. It is a time to consider what the message of Jesus means to us and how we can put it into action every day of our lives. It could be respecting ourselves and others more, having the courage to stand up for what is right, or to show compassion for those around us that are suffering. We are always reminded, in everything we do, to do our best; this includes trying our best to make the lives of others better.

Project Compassion

Last call for any rogue Project Compassion boxes to be delivered to the College Office by tomorrow, Friday 5 June, preferably with money in them. This fundraising effort has been knocked around as a result of COVID-19 so it would be great to support this if you can, and, in doing so, support the work  of Caritas in helping the most marginalised of our society.

Vinnies Winter Appeal

Get ready, because next week we are going to launch the Vinnies Winter Appeal here at Mount Carmel. It is the opportunity to donate any clean clothing and blankets that are no longer used in your house, to help clothe and warm those people doing it tough this winter,

Again, with the disruptions to employment and incomes due to the pandemic, this appeal takes on a whole new significance this year. More information will be distributed about this in the coming weeks.

Online Mass

Don’t forget that your favourite parishes are still streaming mass each Sunday during current restrictions. You will find them doing this on their Facebook pages, so check them out for times each Sunday.
