school life

Wah! It’s so good to have everyone back at school.

Terima Kasih! (Thank you) so much to all the families who have helped students to complete and upload their work and generously shared photo’s and video’s. Ibu Nadia and I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing so many wonderful examples of your learning.

It has been especially encouraging seeing parents learning Indonesian with their children. I am keen to workshop ways of continuing to enable co-learning post remote learning, so if you have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated! (grant.kasenya.g@edumail.vic.gov.au) For now, if you are able to continue to play some of the language games you learned at home every so often that would be a wonderful way of supporting your child’s language learning. If you have forgotten some of these games or maybe missed them as they were posted, they are still available on the YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCE-QNYT3SdDVcQnbIilLoiA  As well as games there are a couple of child friendly Indonesian recipes that use ingredients you can get from your supermarket. From the photo’s that were sent in, I can see we have a lot of great cooks among our students!

A reminder also that submissions for the state-wide Indonesian writing competition are due by June 15 at the latest. Foundies and juniors have been labelling beautiful pictures for the competition, middles have put a lot of work into writing diaries about what meals they might eat on holiday in Indonesia, and I have enjoyed reading some very creative stories from our senior students – all written in Indonesian of course!

Salam Hangat,

Ibu Nadia dan Ibu Kas

Wah! Ulat bagus!! Terima Kasih Gabriel from CB

Mie Ayam Enak! Terima kasih Angus from MM

sorry day and national reconciliation week

Wanting to understand more about Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week Unit NF read John Marsden & Shaun Tan’s “The Rabbits” and responded to the text with thoughts and feelings.

We hung up our work in the entrance corridor.

We spent time in Yakai Barring gathering materials for making paint and implements to paint with.

We continued our Investigations lesson by crushing our rocks and chalk and making paint.

Another activity completed during Investigations was twine making.

During Writing Unit NF reflected on their Investigations that were inspired by last week’s virtual incursion with Uncle Trevor.

Thank you,

Unit NF

how will you step up?

We're calling on all Australians to Step Up and make a pledge towards reducing their waste contribution. Could you Step Up by saying no to straws? To bringing your own waterbottle? To composting? To buying recycled, to choosing not to buy fast fashion or refusing to purchase fruit and vegetables pre-wrapped in plastic?

There are so many ways to Step Up! And thousands of small steps together, make a big difference! Together we can all be part of the solution.
