Junior School students, here are our Prefects

Our SMC Prefects have created a wonderful video, introducing themselves to our Junior School students.

Holy Week

During the last week of Term 1, Year 7 explored the days of Holy Week.

The main task focused on the final days of Jesus’ life as depicted in the 14 Stations of the Cross. Students were tasked with recreating one Station while being as creative and imaginative as they liked; only using materials and items found around the house.

Here are some of their Stations creations.

SMC Visual Arts online gallery

It is my pleasure to announce the launch of the SMC Visual Arts Online Gallery. This is a space where you are able to view all of the creative masterpieces that our students create within the classroom and beyond!

I would like to acknowledge the work of Emma Havard and Michaela Brighella in bringing this space to life and allowing our students the opportunity to share their talents with our community.

Year 10 Visual Arts virtual excursion – we went global!

One of the aspects that we enjoy the most about Visual Arts is the opportunity that it provides us to experience art in context. Current restrictions have prevented us from being able to venture out into the world and experience works in the flesh, but with the help of digital technology, not all hope has been lost!

Through the use of Google Earth, Year 10 Visual Arts students were able to take off on an adventure to experience street art. In particular, they were tasked with the challenge to find the works of the 'gentle giant of illustration', Pat Perry.

While it was not an excursion in the traditional sense, and could never replace the awe of viewing the works in real life, this was an engaging challenge. Here is what we did ; who knows, maybe you might like to undertake the challenge yourself!

If you are feeling like you need to get out and see a bit of the world within the safety of your own home, why not go on the Virtual Excursion? Send through the treasures that you find to sjadams@smc.tas.edu.au.

Be your own masterpiece - final call for submissions

A huge thank you to everyone for the support you have shown for this challenge. I have received some very clever interpretations that I cannot wait to share with you! If you have an idea for a work and have not yet had the chance to create it, don’t fret! There is still time!

The last date for submission is this Friday 15 May. Please send these to sjadams@smc.tas.edu.au.

Here are the steps as a reminder:

Step 1: Choose your favourite artwork (PG-rated please)

Step 2: Find three things lying around your house

Step 3: Recreate the artwork using those items

Step 4: Email your image to sjadams@smc.tas.edu.au to feature in our virtual exhibition

Let's get physical, at home!

SMC Senior School students are completing an Active at Home Physical and Mental Health Unit in HPE. We are seeing an amazing variety of physical and mindfulness activities being completed. Such impressive efforts and inspiration for keeping active in all kinds of ways at home.
