Take note

Return to school key dates

While we are currently finalising our return to school plan, we can confirm that our current learning at home program for Kinder to Year 12 will continue for this week and next week, with a student-free day on Friday 22 May. In the Senior School, this will be a catch-up day, but no additional work will be set for students.

We will communicate the full St Mary’s College return to learning at school plan soon. There will then be an opportunity for families to work with the College to discuss and refine the processes in place.

Outside School Hours Care

The College's Outside School Hours Care program, run by CatholicCare, will be operating on the student-free day (Friday 22 May), for Junior School families requiring the service.

To make a booking, please contact CatholicCare Children's Services on 1300 119 455 or log on to www.catholiccaretas.org.au/

TASC FAQ for Year 11 and 12

TASC has developed a set of frequently asked questions regarding Year 11-12 TASC courses, qualifications and external assessment. These FAQs have been developed specifically for students and their parents or carers. To view the responses in the FAQ document visit www.tasc.tas.gov.au/covid-19-update.

If the information contained in the FAQs raises more questions for you, please do not hesitate to contact Wendy Forsyth, Director of Curriculum, for clarification on wforsyth@smc.tas.edu.au.

School Photos

Thank you to our kind Parents and Friends’ Association and especially Jo Edwards and Stacey Daley who have generously supported the postage of our school photo packages to families. They will be distributed this week.

For those who have sent in envelopes and stamps, you will be reimbursed shortly and we apologise for any inconvenience. If you have any questions, please email communications@smc.tas.edu.au.

Sustainability tips for staying at home

Here are some useful tips for sustainability while you're staying at home:

  1. Put an extra layer of clothing on, rather than the heater.
  2. Open the curtains instead of turning on lights.
  3. Turn off lights when you leave the room.
  4. Grow your own veggies or herbs.
  5. Start composting food waste.
  6. Turn off power points when you are not using them.
  7. Take shorter showers.
  8. There are heaps of documentaries on sustainability (especially on Netflix). If you have time to burn, watch them! The more you know, the better.
  9. Turn off your electronics when you are not using them. Do not leave the TV on in the background.
  10. Buy your fruit and vegetables locally.

If you have any other tips for being sustainable at home, send them through to the Footprint Project, via jcrowden@smc.tas.edu.au.

Here are some photos illustrating how Year 10 student, Amelie Cox (a Footprint Project team member) and her family are still being sustainable while at home.
