Student Musings on Remote Learning

Welcome Back!

It was with much excitement that we welcomed our Senior School students back on site on Tuesday after many weeks of remote learning.

We understand how momentous this occasion was and celebrated with a catch-up session on the quad on day one. We were surrounded by a student selected symbolic playlist, squeals of delight and much laughter, as the students had some extra time with their friends before a late start to period one.

As we moved through the week, we had a number of activities planned to help students reconnect and engage, including a Q&A session with Mr Phillips, organising study planners for up-coming SAC and assessments and a chance to collaborate with their friends on a creative project.

Next week will see some further activities designed to assist all our students feel comfortable and reconnected with RSC life.

As we move forward, students should know that we are here and available. Students are welcome to come and see us if they need support in any way.

Reconciliation Week

As part of Reconciliation Week (27th May – 3rd June), during interGREAT, the year 9s discovered that it's about celebrating the first Australians, learning about indigenous history and culture and exploring how we can share that knowledge and grow as a nation.

As part of this year’s theme ‘Grounded in Truth, Walk together with courage’, students reflected on the stories of a group of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the ways in which they demonstrated courage and bravery on their journey to success while also keeping their traditions alive.

They also designed messages on footprints in order to show the next steps that need to be taken by all of us on the road to reconciliation. Here is some of the great work and wise words of our Year 9s.

Always has, always will be Aboriginal land.

We are sorry. You are recognised.

Teagan McPherson 9J

Reconciliation is important in order for Australia as a whole to become more united, to bring awareness to indigenous culture and to emphasise the unacceptance of close-mindedness, especially in a country that prides itself on racial diversity and said indigenous culture.

Being brave in this context is to go beyond expectations but never forget your background and identity

Mely Niching 9D

Being brave is about stepping out of the stereotypes and not letting go of who you are. It is also about stepping forward no matter what situation you’re in.
