Together We Did It!

Welcome Back

This week we have welcomed back some of our students – all of Year 11 and 12, VCE and VCAL students and some of our Year 10 students undertaking VCE studies.

May I add how impressed I have been with the way our young people have re-engaged. It is good to have students back on campus and hear the chatter, laughter and see so many smiling faces. We are not sure who was more excited, the students or teachers to be back in the classroom and I am sure that many parents have also breathed a big sigh of relief too!

I really hope that our students, having faced such a challenge early in their lives, use it as a great opportunity to build skills in resilience and tenacity. School is a place where our young people grow, a place where they socialise and a place they feel safe!

We haven’t just jumped back into the curriculum this week thinking that “there’s lots to catch up on”, before we have allowed our students to feel safe, secure and welcome in the place we (teachers and support staff) call work, but they call school. The focus is much more about what lies ahead than on the rear view mirror. We are truly enjoying the interactions, bouncing back and building a shared understanding of how we can work effectively together to plan for the remaining two terms of 2020.

The Return of Staff and Students Finally

This was a much more exciting week than most others we have experienced so far this term. We had the pleasure of staff and VCE students return to school on Tuesday 26th May!

Planning and preparations began in the weeks leading up to this day, and when both students and staff entered the school grounds on Tuesday, the excitement and joy was easily seen.  With many quite eager to reconnect with one another, it was great to see and appreciate some aspects of what school environments create for so many people.

The beginning of the day was dedicated to students and providing them the opportunity to reconnect, chat and share some of their experience over their time as remote learners with on another.  After the slight delay to period 1, classes began and teaching a learning resumed in the format that both teachers and students are more accustomed to, as opposed to their recent time in remote learning.  Throughout this week our VCE students have had a number of different reconnection and engagement activities, and this will continue into next week to ease and ensure a successful transition back to the school.  Activities of this nature will also be put in place for the return of Years 7 to 10 students upon their return.

Now that VCAA have released the exam dates for Unit 3 & 4 exams (November 9th to December 2nd) it is great for our senior students to have some certainty and timeframes around what they are working towards.  Now we patiently await the detailed exam schedule...

To our Year 7 to 10 students, keep working hard in the remote learning environment. Your return to school is fast approaching, and before we know it, RSC will once again be the busy environment is usual is. Continue to complete the work set within your lessons, along with required exit passes. Please ensure to communicate with your teachers for assistance and support when needed.

For our VCE students, I hope you have enjoyed your return to school this week and look forward to once again having regular face-to-face teaching lessons, along with some normality slowing returning in our day-to-day lives.
