Assistant Principal's Report

Term 4: Report

Changes to Bell Times and Mentor Group for 2023

The College has spent considerable time investigating the impact the newly negotiated Victorian Government Schools Agreement will have on current operations and this has led to us making some necessary adjustments to the instructional program and schedule of the school day.

As a result, 2023 will see the school day transition from a 4 x 70-minute period day with a 20-minute daily Mentor Group to a 5 x 60-minute period day that will include a 60-minute Mentor Group Period.

The new Mentor Group sessions will be structured according to year level as opposed to the current Year 7-12 vertical structure providing us with the opportunity to tailor a specific program to the needs of each year level’s cohort. To support this, the College will introduce the very popular and highly recommended program “The Resilience Project” across all year levels.

The implementation of the new structure will formally take place during our Headstart Program beginning Monday, November 28 and concluding Friday, December 9.

Headstart 2023

Our Headstart program is scheduled for two weeks beginning on November 28 and concluding on December 9. It is a time when students transition into their 2023 year levels and 2023 classes, meet their 2023 teachers and also begin establishing relationships with their 2023 peers.

While we are aware that not all students will have their 2023 textbooks and complete materials, students are expected to continue to bring with them their laptop, pencil case and an exercise book that can be used for the two-week program.

During this time our 2023 Year 12 students will embark on their Year 12 Retreat to Philip Island where they will partake in a number of VCE workshops to help prepare them for the VCE year ahead, be introduced to a number of guest speakers and tighten already strong bonds that exist within the cohort.
