Principal's Report

Term 4: Principal Report

Farewell to our ‘Class of 2022’’-

We are so proud of the class of 2022 for their commitment and dedication to their studies and each other. The class of 2022 have embraced our College values throughout their time at South Oakleigh College and this year in particular have shown Resilience, Responsibility and Teamwork as they manoeuvred their way through the year and now are embracing their exams and prepared to succeed to the best of their ability.  It has also been a time when they have stood up and demonstrated student leadership on many levels being excellent role models to all other students at South Oakleigh College. I take this opportunity to reiterate to our community how proud we are of our students and how we collectively wish them all the very best for the exciting challenges and pathways that lay ahead. We are confident that the years ahead will be filled with much success, joy, and exciting opportunities.

“There is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass an examination, and finish your education. The whole of life, from the moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process of learning.” — Jiddu Krishnamurti

World Teachers’ Day – last Friday the 28th of October we celebrated ‘World Teachers’ Day’.

Celebrated in over 100 countries World Teachers’ Day acknowledges the efforts of teachers in an increasingly complex, multicultural and technological society. Internationally, World Teachers’ Day is observed annually on the first Friday in October.

As this day usually falls during the Australian term break, all Australian schools celebrate the day on the last Friday in October of each year.

By recognising World Teachers’ Day we are provided with an opportunity to draw attention to the important role of teachers within our communities. Students, parents, and community members can demonstrate their appreciation for the contributions that teachers have made to them and the broader community.

At South Oakleigh College we continue to strive to ensure quality teaching in every classroom and to support highly skilled teachers who will provide the nurturing and encouragement needed by our students to be successful now and into the future. On behalf of our school community, I thank all members of our teaching team for their hard work and dedication.

Semester 2 Year 7-11 Examinations

With the end of term fast approaching, our Years 7-11 students will soon be completing their Semester 2 examinations before approaching the new academic year begins at Headstart. These exams are an opportunity for all students to review their understanding and reflect on their learning throughout Terms 3 and 4. We encourage all students to take the time to set high expectations for themselves and apply teamwork to collaborate with their peers to form productive study habits and study groups.

This could include attending Homework Club in IT2/IT3 every Monday and Wednesday or seeking additional resources and support from teachers. College staff, Student Services, and the Wellbeing Team are here to assist students if needed. We wish all students, particularly those in VCE, the best with their studies and remind them to balance studying with rest and a healthy eating plan.

Planning and preparation for 2023

This is a quick reminder to the Parents/Guardians of students who will no longer be attending South Oakleigh College in 2023. If you have not already done so, can you please contact the school to inform us that your child will not attend next year. This information can be communicated to the staff members in our General Office.

This information is vital for our teams in order to plan and prepare classes and programs for next year.
