Year 5 Writing

In term 3, year 5 were inspired by author Nova Weetman who came and spoke to the 5/6 students in Book Week. We completed a term long unit of work around fantasy writing and created our own little books with front covers, drawings and blurbs. In our mini lessons we looked at vivid imagery, dialogue and timeline sequencing to create suspense with a particular focus on an awareness of our reader. Please enjoy the snapshot of stories chosen.

“C’mon Cloves just stop already and come work in the deli with me,” exclaimed her dad, rolling his eyes.
“Yeah Clover, you have no one to prove to!” Her mother added

The tree, tall, towering and majestic. High in the canopy of the twenty-five metre tree, a small figure flitted carefully between the branches, moving with care and precision. The twelve year old boy was rather small for his age and was in his element up in the canopy. Jackson tried to make his way higher but suddenly… a ferocious wind came in, shaking the whole tree and sending dust swirling into Jackson’s eyes. He scrambled for purchase but his feet slipped and left him hanging on the branch for dear life. The strong wind ripped him off the branch and he dropped, slamming his body against branches as he fell. He hit the ground with a THUD!!!! He felt a strange feeling creeping over his body then everything went black…

Up above in the mystical clouds, there stood an ordinary, classic kitchen. A ferocious green monster with dark brown piercing eyes, a dinosaur, known to be called Vicious Dinosaur, was travelling in the cabin of ‘first class’ in the sky train. He Shoved his huge bottom into a patterned velvet seat knocking other people out of their silk seats. Vicious Dinosaur nestled in finally. He was nervous yet excited about moving into the kitchen.
“Where are you heading?” he yelled, at the other petrified person.
It took a long time for the other person to respond, but the person soon came to the point.
“I’m going to Road Town,” trembled the person shakingly.
