In Year 6 we were inspired by the text, “Are We There Yet?” A journey of traveling around Australia based on an actual journey taken by author Alison Lester. We discussed postcards as methods of sharing our adventures with others. Students reflected on books they had read and imagined sending a friend a postcard from their chosen story book. Here’s a snippet of students in class and some of their great work. Naturally we finished off with returning, borrowing and enjoying our new books.
Year One recently read Pamela Allen’s book, “Brown Bread and Honey” about a fussy King in his castle who enjoyed a variety of food. There was lots of great rhyming and wonderful description which had us being adjective detectives. Students depicted their own castles and added many great adjectives to describe their creations.
OVERDUES
We still have many library books overdue. I have started to send home overdue notices as a reminder. It would be very helpful if you could double check around the home for any school library books that could be returned for others to enjoy. Not only would they be great to have back in the library but they would save us a lot of money too. Over 100 books overdue at approximately $15 per book is $1500 in purchasing replacement texts. YIKES! Any returns are greatly accepted, no matter how late, no questions asked.
