From the Principal

Exciting times

I had the pleasure of attending our Year 7 2023 Parent Information Evening this week. I mentioned to our families that it is an exciting time to be part of John XXIII College with very strong demand for enrolments and innovative developments in our learning spaces. More importantly, the calibre of our students and staff is very impressive. A highlight of the Parent Evening was the presentations provided by our current Year 7 students on their transition to secondary schooling. The honesty of our students in discussing both their challenges and successes was very refreshing. The students were informative and entertaining.

The appointment of Mr Daniel Mahon as the new Principal is also wonderful news for our school. I have spoken to him recently and he was very impressive. Principals within the network of Loreto schools speak highly of Mr Mahon’s qualities as a person and as an educator. He is joining a wonderful College and he will be an excellent leader.

Our Enrolment Manager, Mrs Lizz Schollum, provided some interesting statistics on our 190 prospective Year 7s:

  • 58 students are already part of our Primary School.
  • Next year our largest feeder Catholic Primary schools are
    • Holy Spirit (13 students)
    • St John’s (13)
    • St Thomas (12)
    • Loreto (11).
  • Holy Rosary will provide nine students, Wembley Primary eight and Dalkeith Primary six.
  • Students from 44 schools have been enrolled.
  • 24 schools have only one student enrolled.

The diversity of our students’ backgrounds reinforces the necessity of having excellent transition and induction programs. I thank our wonderful staff for their diligence and enthusiasm in establishing our programs.
