Music on the Lawn

The evening started off with the Drumline marching amongst the audience with their amazing choreography.  Following this, was a showcase of all of our College Ensembles - The Year 7 Training Band, Vocal Ensemble, Junior Concert Band, Guitar Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and Wind Symphony.  We also had a number of classroom groups from Year 9 and 11, as well as student lead rock bands and duets performing classic tunes.

This wouldn’t have been possible without the assistance of our Classroom and Instrumental Music Staff, in attendance from  5pm until the events conclusion. Many awards were presented to Music students for demonstrating outstanding commitment to the band program, some since they started at the College in Year 7. We also acknowledged the wonderful work of Neil and Robyn Hambly, who were instrumental in building the Music program at the College since they began. They will surely be missed.

Senior Vocal Group Tour Day

On Monday 21 November, our Senior Vocal Ensemble spent the day presenting pop-up acoustic performances in Prahran and St Kilda. Students took part in a walking tour, and learnt about the music history within each area, including live venue visits. This was a very exciting day for the students, as it was the first time they performed in front of members of the general public.

Our student performers were Xavier Brown, Liam Close, Marcus Dun, Ethan Hepworth, Alex Hodgkins, Flynn Hunter, Justin Meo, Musashi Roche, Dominic Schepis, Lucas Shaw and Austin Warfe.

The outstanding work of our Vocal Director, Drew Downing, must be acknowledged! Drew has done an amazing job working with these students, and has been a key organiser of the tour day, in conjunction with Kelly Allan.

Three of our students reflected below:

"Last Monday 21 November the Senior Vocal Group went on tour in an effort to bring live music back to communities where it has been lacking over the past three years.

As a group we toured Prahran, Windsor and St Kilda performing songs from our repertoire in local hot spots.

During our tour we also learnt about the history of live music of the areas, seeing the locations of many live music venues. We were lucky enough to be given a tour through The MC Showroom and Paxus Productions recording studio by its owner Miao, and also a tour of Chapel off Chapel by its manager, Cate.

As a group we loved being able to brighten up passers-by as they continued with their busy day.  The highlight of the day for many of us were our performances on Acland Street in which we performed our repertoire to the general public, a nerve wracking but enjoyable experience for us all.

Overall, the day was an amazing experience for everyone involved as we learnt so much about the history of music in Melbourne and also about ourselves as individual singers.

Thank you to Ms McCormick and Ms Allan who accompanied us on the day and special thanks to Mr Downing. Without his planning this day would never have happened."

Music Legends Concert

A few weeks ago, St Bede’s College, Bentleigh East Campus, hosted The Music Legend’s Concert.

It was a fantastic event that showcased the incredible talents of the Year 10 solo and group assessment performances, and the College co-curricular ensembles, including the Johnny Williams Jazz Band, James Horner Ensemble, Vocal Group, the Bentleigh East Campus Drumline, and various instrumental soloists.

It was a highly enjoyable evening highlighting the diverse range of music skill across the College's student body, as well as the incredible talents of all students who assisted backstage.

Well done to everyone involved!
