Artificial Intelligence

The students in Year 3  been investigating how computers use artificial intelligence to think and learn.  The have looked at how computers 'see'  and learn how to recognise objects. Examples of applications of this technology include drones that use software to 'identify' crocodiles in northern Queensland rivers. Feature extraction is used to identify common and differentiating attributes. They completed an activity to list the characteristics of sharks and dolphins and highlighted those that were similar/different.

Students then used the website Autodraw, where they were encouraged to draw the distinguishing features of a shark to see if the software could correctly identify it. Another website the students experimented with was Quickdraw where the software is continuing to 'learn' as people use it - have a go, it's great fun.
