Hi Year 5 and 6 Parents!
We are almost half way through the final term of the year, and hasn’t it been a busy one! Read below for an update about the past 2 weeks and more important dates to be aware of in the coming weeks.
PHONES IN THE SCHOOL YARD
Unfortunately there have been a lot of instances where we have seen students using their phones before school (and after school) in the school yard. Can we please ask that students bring their phones into their classrooms and leave them with their teachers as soon as they arrive at school. Parents, please have a talk to your children about their mobile phone use at school.
YEAR 5 & 6 EXCURSION TO THE MCG
Despite the weather, the Year 5 and 6 students had an absolute ball visiting the MCG Australian Sports Museum. Meeting Olympians Jenny Donnet and Tess Lloyd was a highlight, along with testing their skills in Game On!
LEADER’S DAY
We were all very excited to experience Leader’s Day in-person once again. Students from Foundation to Year 6 were divided into 30 groups and completed a number of tasks lead by our wonderful Year 6 Leaders. Well done to all the leaders involved and Gill Prentice for a successful afternoon of fun!
VERMONT VIEWS
The Vermont Views magazine is still available for purchase on Qkr! This is a great keepsake of 'the year that was' and a fun way to track your child's journey through their school years. Further details can be found on Qkr!
YEAR 6 GRADUATION
The Year 6 Graduation will take place at the Box Hill Town Hall on Monday 12th December. The evening officially begins at 5.30pm however, most students arrive between 5pm and 5.30pm so that they can take photos with their friends before Graduation starts. The students should be dressed in appropriate clothing for the evening. Students have typically chosen to wear neat, semi-formal clothing, such as collared shirts, slacks and dresses that reflect this special occasion.
INTERRELATE
All classes started their Interrelate sessions this week. Please chat to your child about what was discussed - they may prefer to just show you their workbook instead! Parents also have homework! Ask your child as to what you need to do.
QUANTUM EXCURSION
To celebrate STEM Week, all classes from Years 3-6 are going on an excursion to Quantum Victoria. The date for your child’s excursion is below. On your child’s day, they will need to be at school at 8.45am with the bus leaving for Macleod at 9am. Students will need to bring their hat, a snack, a drink bottle and their lunch in a small bag.
Please check the dates below for each class.
6AS went to Quantum today! They learnt to use the Design Thinking process to solve a problem and design a product. This resulted in some amazing key chains which were designed on the computer and printed on a 3D printer!
Quantum Victoria is a Centre of Excellence and Innovation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Education. Students will be involved in unique hands-on STEM and Digital Learning activities throughout the day. The Year 5/6s will be programming and working with 3D printers. Permission and payment was due on Qkr! on Friday, October 28. If you have not yet done so, please pay ASAP.
PARENTS MATHS NIGHT
Thank you to all parents who came along to Vermont Primary School’s Parents Maths Night last night. It was wonderful to be able to show off our gallery of student work and see so many parents involved in our workshops.
BIKE ED
This year, our Bike Ed program will be run with Grade 6 students, as they previously missed out due to Covid. Don't worry Grade 5's, your turn will come! Grade 6 students should have brought home their permission note yesterday. Please return these ASAP as we are planning to start next Friday. It is important that all families do a safety check (attached to the permission note) on their child's bike, to ensure they are safe to ride.
