Year 6 News

Science Works

Written by Verity & Angela 6A

On Wednesday the 19  October the whole of grade 6 went off to Scienceworks. The first thing we did was sit down on these rainbow steps and have a snack to refuel after the long bus ride. Then we went into the lightning room and had a presentation about lightning, and it went on for about 45 minutes. One thing we learnt about was if you rub two balloons on your head it creates enough energy to stick to anything for a long period of time.

After that finished, we went into the general viewing area which had a lot of different activities to do like: a running track to race against Kathy Freeman, a place to see how much weight you can pull, somewhere you can check your height and weight, you can be judges for a gymnastics competition and many more.

Next, we had our lunch break outside in the fresh air. Once we had finished eating, we headed back inside for our final activity.

We headed over the Planetarium and watched a video about a man and a girl trying to find a planet that we can live on other than Earth. In the end they found out that there wasn’t another planet suitable for life and so we needed to fix our Earth instead of just running away from it. Then the man that ran the video then showed us all about the different stars and constellations and what they look like at different times during the night.

Afterwards we headed back to the buses to go back to school.

A big thank you to the teachers and the Scienceworks team who made this excursion possible.
