Year 2 News

Unit Of Inquiry

The Year 2 students have had an action-packed start to the term for the Unit of Inquiry, Forces change the way things move. During the Billy Cart incursion, the students built various vehicles, which they then got to play with, test-drove Billy Carts around a race track and experimented with push and pull, gravity and friction forces.

This incursion built on the students’ knowledge of these forces and allowed them to investigate with hands-on models. The students were very engaged, had a great time and learnt so much about forces.

The Year 2 marble runs were a great success. Thank you to everyone who supplied cardboard boxes and toilet and paper towel rolls. The students were introduced to some design techniques and practised these on a smaller-scale marble run. Then they learnt more information about gravity, friction and push and pull forces. On the day, students were encouraged to draw a design and work collaboratively with their team.

After feedback and more adjustments, we had the final run with many students able to slow their marble down using bumps, turns and funnels.
