Ridley House News

Mr David Meehan

At the end of last term, the Year 9 cohort had their camp in the beautiful, though chilly, Numinbah Valley. I’d like to thank Pastoral Group teacher Mr Carl Palmer and boarding supervisor Mr Will Burkett for coming along and supporting the boys as they tackled the challenges of the camp and the challenges of working together as a cohesive unit.

At the final assembly for Year 12 prior to their External Exams, where we wish them all the very best of luck, the results for the House Cup for 2022 were announced. It was with great excitement and pleasure that Ridley House were crowned House Champions again this year. An unprecedented seventh consecutive year. Pat Tierney, the Ridley House Sports leader was on hand to collect.

Inter-house competition for 2023 has kicked off strongly already this term. Ridley students: Massimo Tsiros, Alex Apelt and Oliver Lee battled hard for points in the Ignatius House Chess Competition organised expertly by Mr Quain. Alex Apelt in fact won the year9/10 division, helping our team to third place overall.

The Gilroy Ash Dash, held in Week 2, saw many fine performances from all our year group teams. Thanks to Mr Gillett for his enthusiastic organisation of this fun event. The Ridley Team managed to come tied for second on the day.

The Year 11 Semi-Formal held at Victoria Park Golf Course was again another special night. Congratulations to all our boys for the polite and manly manner in which they treated their partners for the evening. We can be very proud of our young men.

Finally, on Wednesday the 19th of October we held our House Farewell for our Year 12s. Firstly, congratulations to the Ridley Year 11s who partly catered for the farewell. Secondly, congratulations to the Year 11s for the speeches that they made for each of the graduating Seniors from their Pastoral Groups. The speeches were well-scripted, performed and sincere. And rightly so, as the Year 12 cohort has been a wonderful group of young men to deal with over the past six years. So much talent across all areas of school life combined with humility, kindness and a great sense of humour. They will be missed by all of us.
