Acting Head of Senior Years

Year 10 Advanced Science

This experience we had in advanced science allowed us to experiment with hydraulic systems, and we were tasked of making it ourselves. We were given ideas, but we decided to explore outside the box and designed a car that had hydraulics installed on the wheel to be able to pitch the car up and down and roll left and right. This is an experience I would never have wanted to miss out! – Kristian K

We were inspired by Snoop Dogg and his car which was fitted with hydraulic suspension. The idea of cars dancing and crawling around seemed comical and it was not until we watched a video of Snoop Dogg's car had we realized that we could recreate this work of art. We also slapped a photo of Snoop Dogg on to the windscreen to give the impression that he is driving his own car giving our project a humorous take. – Shaun R

Navreet, Sarah and I worked on making a functioning elevator with hydraulics. For me this project was probably on the most fun and engaging things I've done for science. For me learning about the science behind it and physically applying the knowledge was the most interesting part of the whole project, doing it with my friends made it an even more of a compelling experience. However, the most satisfying part was the model actually working! Putting all that teamwork into building and styling the model was fun but to have it actually work was incredibly validating!! - Zaina C

The butterfly is a creature known almost universally for its unambiguous and irrefutable beauty, itself cannot see its own wings when it flies.

A butterfly cannot see what we think makes it beautiful.

For many of us we suffer from the same inability to see our own self-worth.

Psalm 139:14 says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

But even though many of us believe that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, that we are capable, and beautiful, or strong and smart, or able, or worthy.

We seldom actually trust that knowledge.

Though we are not perfect, and we see all of our imperfections, we should aim to remember that we are our own worst critics, and the world sees us in a very different light.

You might think that you’re just a weird little bug but in fact you are a beautiful butterfly, and you are more beautiful each day.

Heavenly Father,

You are the creator of the heavens and the earth,

All creatures great and small, all things bright and beautiful.

Guide us Father in your love, help us to see our beauty and the beauty in the world that you have made.

Let us not be slaves or blind to sin but help us along the path of righteousness.

For Christ’s sake, AMEN.
