Deputy Principal - Academic

Mr Richard Baird

On Thursday, 10 November GNLC Middle and Senior Years celebrated their annual Swimming Carnival at the Werribee Outdoor Pool. Forecast conditions tried to cause a false start to the day, however we were lucky enough to enjoy the sunshine for most of the day before a slight drizzle of rain decided to pay a visit.

Students were welcomed to the pool by bubbles in the air and smiling teachers, all dressed in their House colours. Shout out for best dressed goes out to two of our Middle Years leaders, Erica and Elena who went out with a bang (Literally) as their costumes popped and deflated, however nothing could dampen their spirit!

With the ever trusty Mr Greenhough on the starter, students donned their swim caps and races were underway! Students competed gallantly for their houses with their peers cheering on right beside them in the Year level stands. Finish line judges had their eyes locked on competitors as some fierce races came down to the line.

Whilst the races were gliding through, the novelty pool was hitting a PB as Pool Volleyball was a star favourite for competitors. Team spirit was heightened and cheers went out with every point won.

As a new initiative this year, the first heat of the Art competition was run with Art leaders and various students coming together to create amazing House Murals. Thank you to all teachers that helped facilitate this, they were amazing!

The Carnival concluded with the recognition of some amazing students that swam like fish on the day and came out as overall champions. Congratulations to Eva B of Year 8 and Callum W of Year 7 for being awarded champions of the day! As well as this, for the third year running (Swimming), Hume took out the overall House Championship for the Swimming Carnival. Well done Hume!

I would like to take this time to thank all staff and students that helped out and attended on the day. Many staff stepped up on the day wherever possible, which made the day run smoothly. Shout out to the PE crew for helping organise the day, along with some Year 12 students that helped run the sound booth.
