Year 5 PYP Exhibition

Year 5 PYP Exhibition 2022

This term the grade five students completed their Sharing the planet Unit of Inquiry, which culminated in an Exhibition. The Exhibition Unit is the result of their experiences working with the IB Primary Years Program and is a display of their understandings of the programme principles and framework.

The theme of the 2022 exhibition was ‘change starts with us’. The year 5 students inquired into the transdisciplinary theme Sharing the planet. Students investigated the UN sustainable development goals and began their journey to take action to make a difference to humankind. Students were very busy researching and gathering information about a goalkeeper that takes action on their UN Goal. Students wore t-shirts on the evening that were recycled from home and carried a significant message: to consume less. If every person in Australian brought 2 less t-shirts every year that would stop 5 million tons going into land fill. We need to reduce our consumption, reuse what we’ve got and repair more. Each of their exhibits investigated a global issue which they cared very deeply about, and students were excited to share their knowledge on the evening.

During students’ music lessons, they learnt about how messages can be delivered through songs and lyrics. Students performed the song ‘Heal the world' By Michael Jackson which delivered a powerful message of how ‘change starts with us’. The song was accompanied by drummers Sandaru, Collin, Aadarsh and Hriday, and keyboardists Kennard and Tina.

Overall, the Year 5 Exhibition was a successful college event that was greatly appreciated by all involved, especially the wider community. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their learning and their hard work and achievements throughout the year.

Thank you to Mrs E for her incredible musical talent, and most importantly thank you to the incredible Year 5 teachers and the students’ mentors for all the support provided throughout the exhibition learning journey.

We are all so proud of the students' achievements!
