2nd XI v St Augustine’s College @ TBA (10.00 am start)

1st XI v St Patrick’s College @ Strathfield – Saturday 5 November 2022

Breen Oval was the scene for the Round 3 ISA competition fixture. Having lost the toss and finding themselves in the field, the 1st XI applied a disciplined approach to their bowling and fielding and largely restricted the home team. An early wicket to Mitch McGrath (1-16) caught behind by Oli Freeman was followed by two wickets in consecutive balls by Andrew May (3-18 off 8.3 overs) who bowled with pace and accuracy. Flynn Pavely (2-30) and Manas Bansal (2-33) bowled their full complement of 10 overs in very good spells, while Jesse Mansbridge (2-49) helped clean up the tail. St Patrick’s bowled out in the second last over for 189.

Joel Austin (18) and Patrick Frost (17) found the gaps in the field in an enterprising start putting on 37. Will Pavely (26) scored at a run a ball, but wickets fell regularly in the middle overs to put the away side under pressure. Oli Freeman (17) and Lachlan Jursevic (13) made starts before Flynn Pavely (29) hit cleanly to give some hope. However, the failure to convert any of these starts left the 1st XI dismissed for 150.

Senior Basketball

Shout-out to our 15A’s and 2nd V who flew the flag in a tough week for A and B teams against St Augustine’s and Redfield respectively. In the ‘C’ v ‘D’ grudge matches, three of the five games were decided by 2 points or less. Our Open’s take ‘Age-group of the week’ with all teams, except the 1sts/3rds winning. Well done to our 13H’s and 14G’s who both posted great wins at home.

NSTA Tennis

It was perfect weather for tennis last Saturday. The 8.00 am games were lots of fun to watch with 7 of the 8 games being Pius v Pius matches. SPX 28 the brothers, Kayden and Javien Foo were a force to be reckoned with winning all 3 sets to SPX 32. Henry Burke partnered with Nick Kwan last week to play against his own team. That didn’t stop Henry though, winning both his singles and doubles, 6-4 and 6-1 respectively. Daniel Lenehan and Kody Tabalon, SPX 19 easily won their three set against SPX 20, 18 games to 4. Thank you to Izaac Tan, Lucas Halim, James Higgins for umpiring and mentoring our younger teams last weekend. A special thanks must also go to Jake Yu, Year 6, who also volunteered to umpire and was also a welcome addition to the team last weekend.

The 10.00 am games are always a little more serious as when the players enter the courts, they are determined to win. Ben Shoudra and Oscar Roberts, SPX 12 both played excellent singles matches, both winning 6-2. I think the match to watch was SPX 15 vs Reddam 4.  Adam Fitrzyk and Layton Chan fought hard to win the match with a close 16 games to 15.

A reminder to all players that they must stay until ALL matches have been played in their team. As you are a team, it is important to support your team members.

There have been a couple of errors with the scores recently so please ensure that you are checking your weekly scores, rankings and draw on the xpoint site: https://www.xpointsports.com/region/325/currentEvents

However, please continue to sign up for the remainder of Term 4 and disregard any emails that say “you were missed at training”.
