Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award

Congratulations to Mitchell McGrath, who has been successful in achieving the Silver Award.

Mitchell has been very active in achieving the Silver Award. He regularly completed his Service component at Long Reef, patrolling the beach and keeping the community safe. For his Physical Activity component, Mitchell maintained a regular routine of fitness attending regular gym sessions to improve his strength and aerobic capacity, for rugby. He also used learning to drive for his skill component of the Award, improving his confidence in driving in varying conditions and environments. Mitchell completed a combined Silver Hike with Outward Bound.

Here are Mitchell's reflections on his journey:

"Upon reflection, I definitely think this hike was a great experience that I will look back on for years to come. The biggest reflection I had was to learn to embrace the discomfort. When I was wet, sweaty, and sore, I realised that thinking about it and complaining did not help anything. Embracing being uncomfortable made things much easier and more enjoyable. The hike also made me realise that my stress from small things back at home was insignificant and I should not dwell on it for too long like I usually would. The most challenging bit about the journey was learning to listen to other people's opinions and allow them time to catch up. This would in turn be my biggest improvement for next time. I would definitely recommend this to others, advice I would give would just be to push on, complaining won't get you any closer to the finish line."

Congratulations to Mitchell on his leadership for others and persistence in achieving his goals; he now has the Gold Award in his sights!
