Picture Book of the Month:

The Gift - A beautiful, sensitive story about the joy of giving, shutting down sterotypes, and having empathy and understanding for others.  The house across the road looks abandoned, but Rosie knows someone lives there.  She decides to give her mystery neighbour a gift, something different, something unusual, something surprising.  Something her Mum would have been proud of.

Secondary Book of the month:

Monuments from fabulous author Will Kostakis.  When Connor and Sally awaken a sleeping god, their lives will be changed forever.  A wonderful mix of supernatural themes in a real life setting.

Craft Tuesday are very popular, we all have a wonderful time while your children are learning a vast range of important skills.  Their creativity promotes sharing, confidence, imagination, problem solving, fine motor skills and thinking.  Colour, different textures and and assortment of art materials inspire the children to express themselves with many individual creations.  At this time of the year Jenni and I are seeing a lot of pride in their creations with automatic sharing and helping others without being prompted.

My Review

Glass Series: Genre Fantasy

Award winning author Maria V. Snyder brings readers into a world of molten magic, where storms can be captured within a glass orb and a magician’s powers can remain hidden until challenged by enemy forces.

As a glass maker and a magician-in-training, Opal Cowan understands trial by fire.  Someone has sabotaged the Stormdancer clan's glass orbs, killing their most powerful magicians. The Stormdancers  particularly the mysterious and mercurial Kade requires Opal's unique talents to prevent it from happening again. But when the mission fails, Opal must tap into a new kind of magic. Yet the further she delves into the intrigue behind the glass and magic, the more distorted things appear.  With lives hanging in the balance, including her own Opal must control her powers.  Powers that could lead to disaster beyond anything she's ever known.

I would recommend this book to any secondary student who enjoys fantasy filled with mystery, suspense survival and a hint of romance.
