Reception - Maths

Maths - Numeracy

This term we will continue to focus on the number and algebra strand from the Australian  Curriculum. Children will continue to be exposed to subitising random small collections of objects and connecting number names, numerals and quantities to 10 and beyond. They will establish understanding of the language and processes of counting by naming numbers in sequence to and from 20 from any starting point. Children will also be given many opportunities to copy, continue and create patterns with concrete objects, drawing and using technology. Through experiences with number lines, dice games and using ten frames

children will be explicitly taught the "Counting On" and "Rainbow Facts" strategy using Ann Baker's Natural Maths program. Children will be involved in mental routines and problematised situations in class to show their thinking of practical situations.

Several Early Years staff  are  attending professional development workshops over the course of the year with the inspiring Ann Baker, to further support their knowledge and understanding.

Maths- Measurement and  Geometry

Children will explore and wonder about patterns in our world, with a focus on days of the week, months of he year and patterns of the day. Children will be able to connect days of the week to familiar events and actions. They will also be able to compare and order the duration of events using everyday language of time.

We will be exploring 2D and 3D shapes, sorting describing and naming objects in our environment.
