Early Years Reflection

Term 1 Reflection

The reception students in LA 6, 7 and 8 have had a very busy yet exciting Term 1. 60 eager and enthusiastic reception students started in week 1 and what a wonderful learning journey they have had so far!  The Mellor Year 1/2 classes have also had a fun-filled and exciting term. All learning areas have enjoyed getting to know each other over the last term and are looking forward to continuing their learning journeys in the coming terms.

The Early Years students enjoyed participating in swimming lessons at the end of Term 1. Students were given the opportunity to practice many skills both in and out of the pool. All students showed outstanding organisation to prepare themselves for their lessons and demonstrated great confidence and enthusiasm in the pool. The students developed a range of knowledge, skills, understandings and attitudes about water confidence, safety and technique.

Harmony Day was a great success with children dressing up in orange and participating in various activities in their wellbeing groups.

Our Early Years students had an opportunity to visit other areas of the school and to interact with students from other learning areas. It was great to see the children working together and demonstrating our school value of care and concern. The Mellor Year 1/2 students also participated in a week of multicultural activities including making posters and hats. A highlight for all students and staff during the week was the shared lunch where students brought in food from their culture.

All Early Years students have had great success this term in borrowing readers using our new system. Students are organised and confident in selecting and borrowing their own books. It’s great to see the students adapt to the change so easily.

A great way to finish the term was our Early Years Easter hat parade. All classes participated together and enjoyed sharing their hat creations with each other.

We are already underway in Term 2 with students and teachers carrying over the same passion and enthusiasm from Term 1! What a busy term ahead!
