Year 11 Legal Studies

Regional Law Talks

Recently, our Year 11 Legal Studies students attended the Regional Law Talks visit offered right here in Shepparton.  The Law Talks visit was a one-day event which provided these students with opportunities to engage with members of the law fraternity and the legal system, in ways they wouldn’t necessarily be able to outside of Melbourne.

It was a fantastic opportunity to hear from legal practitioners and learn about legal services available to members of the public, but specifically related to young people and the VCE Legal Studies curriculum.

Some of the speakers we heard from were:

The Honourable Phil Cummins - Chair of the Victorian Law Reform Commission who spoke to us about the process of law reform in Victoria.

Deborah Glass - the Victorian Ombudsman who spoke about her role in handling complaints from Victorians.

Lisa Nguyen -  Lawyer with YouthLaw who spoke about the rights and responsibilities of young people.

Kaz Gurney - Lawyer with the the Goulburn Valley Community Legal Centre who spoke about providing free legal advice and/or representation for the most disadvantaged people in the community.

Suzanna Sheed, our local member of Victorian Parliament who spoke to us about her journey to becoming a member of Parliament.

A fabulous learning experience for all!
