Happenings around Largs Bay School

The Blue Crew Needs You!

We now have a blue bin in the front office hallway to collect your preloved clothing. Largs Bay is participating in the Diabetes SA Donate and Educate clothing collection. This successful programme offers great benefits for the school community including-

  • The opportunity to engage children at an early age in supporting worthwhile community causes
  • Building commitment to reuse and recycle rather than disposing of goods to landfill
  • A way to contribute to charitable work without seeking the traditional monetary donation.

Diabetes SA is a not for profit organisation that has been helping people with diabetes and their families since 1953. Our Student Voice Committee thought it would be a good idea to help raise funds for Diabetes SA as we do have some families that are affected by this disease within our school. So bring in your preloved clothing and support the Blue Bin Programme. You can collect a blue bag from near the blue bin or just pop it in your own bag. Thanks for your support.

Art of Reconciliation

Exhibition Visit

On Wednesday, Week 9, some students went to visit the “Art of Reconciliation” official launch. The exhibition showcased artwork and reconciliation concepts by schools who took part in the Message Stick Relay, 2015.

Port Adelaide/Enfield Council invited local schools to join them in promoting Reconciliation in our community. Our school created Reconciliation door signs incorporating our Kuranye Metitya Dreaming Garden and the words; ‘Ninna Marni Learning on Kaurna land’, promoting Reconciliation at Largs Bay School.  This door sign along with items from other schools was exhibited at the official launch of “The Art of Reconciliation”, 30 March 2016, at Jackalope Gallery, Port Adelaide.

We also listened to a Kaurna welcome and story from Michael O’Brien, some music from some CASM graduates and also heard the Kalaya Kindy kids sing.

This event, initiated by the Port/Enfield Council enables reconciliation concepts to be shared across the community.
