Student Services at Scoresby

This year we have a Leader of Student Services, Miss Casey Lawson, who will be overseeing all student wellbeing services within the college. Wellbeing services currently offered at Scoresby Secondary College include: college chaplain, doctor and registered nurse as part of the Department of Education’s Doctors  in Schools Program, Social Worker and Psychologist. Wellbeing services can only be be accessed by making appointments through Miss Casey Lawson. Referral with parent permission in writing is required for the specialist appointments.

Throughout the year the college recognises a number of events and this year we have registered our College for the National Day of Action against bullying and violence. This day is recognised on March 15. This year the theme of the day is ‘Bullying No Way! Take action every day’.

The national definition of bullying for Australian schools says:

Bullying is an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that intends to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm. It can involve an individual or a group misusing their power, or perceived power, over one or more persons who feel unable to stop it from happening.

Bullying can happen in person or online, via various digital platforms and devices and it can be obvious (overt) or hidden (covert). Bullying behaviour is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time (for example, through sharing of digital records).

Bullying of any form or for any reason can have immediate, medium and long-term effects on those involved, including bystanders. Single incidents and conflict or fights between equals, whether in person or online, are not defined as bullying.

Scoresby Secondary has a zero tolerance for bullying policy whereby students have a right to learn and staff have a right to teach in a safe, secure and stable environment. More information about our bullying policy can be found on the college website. A student version of the policy (developed by the students) can be obtained via the General Office.
