Assistant Principal's Report

Start of Year 2019

Scoresby Secondary College staff commenced the school year with a very successful professional learning program held on Tuesday 29 January.  On the day we also welcomed four new staff to the College.  The theme of the program was improving student outcomes.  Staff had the opportunity plan and develop curriculum and prepare for the up-coming year.  Our Sub-School teams looked at how they can best support students throughout year, both in and out of the classroom; while our Head of Curriculum worked with teachers to ensure our curriculum continues to engage and challenge our student’s learning.

Our Year 7 and Year 12 students began their school year on the Wednesday, along with an orientation session for the new students to our school. The Year 8-11 students began on Thursday.  We also had a College Assembly where we came together as one for the first time for the year.

We have our first Parent Information Night for the year coming up soon:

  • Wednesday 20 February – Year 7. This night is for the parents/guardians of your year 7 students. This night is a great opportunity for parents to meet other parents as well as teachers.

Compass

All parents/guardians of students have access to the Compass Parent Portal (https://scoresbysc-vic.compass.education). Compass is an excellent and efficient way for parents to keep up to date with their son/daughter’s progress at school. Through the Parent Portal, you can:

• view up-to-date class and school attendance information;

• approve past or future absences (medical certificates will need to be provided to approve VCE/VCAL absences);

• book your Parent/Student/Teacher conferences; and

• access information regarding upcoming events and news.

Parents are reminded they should not share their Parent Portal password with their son/daughter. Students have their own access to Compass.

If you have had any difficulty accessing your Parent Portal account or using it, please contact IT Support on http://support.scoresbysc.vic.edu.au/scp/ or Chris Knight on 9765 4100.

Study Periods

Students in Year 11 and 12 may have study periods throughout the week. These periods are set so students can study, complete work, meet with teachers, careers etc.  Students are required to attend school from the start of each day (Year 11 - 8:45am, Year 12 – 8:50am; assembly days 8:35am) even if they have a study period first period of the day.

Riding to School

For the safety of the students riding their bikes to and from school, they are reminded that by law they are required to wear a helmet while riding.

Students that elect to bring their bike to school are also reminded that they must dismount and walk their bike through the school grounds to the bike shed.

Students should also ensure that their bike is locked with a secure lock.
