Staff Profile

Hao Wang

This is my second year of teaching and the very first year working at Scoresby Secondary College.

Before my wife and I migrated to Australia in 2016, I worked as an engineer at China Academy of Railway Sciences for over 6 years.  I have participated in or led several research projects on energy consumption of trains as well as railway economics.  I was also fortunate enough to be involved in the rapid expansion of the high speed railway network in China and have planned testing and commissioning for over 10 high speed lines.  As an engineer, I applied maths in my work on a daily basis and thus I understand its importance to our students.

I like trying new things. I completed a bachelor degree of engineering and then a master degree of economics in China.  Encouraged by my friends who live here, I decided to move to Australia and become a maths teacher.  I went to Deakin University and started doing a course on teaching in 2016.  I then found that teaching and learning maths in here was very different to my own experience.  So for me it was challenging but also of great fun.  I finished the teaching course in 2017 and got my first maths teacher job at Mount Ridley College, where I learned so much from my colleagues and deepened my understanding of teaching maths in this new environment.

I like working with young people and helping them improve their skills as well as confidence with maths. In the classroom, I tend to make links between the content knowledge and real-life situations, so that the learners can see maths as meaningful and useful, rather than boring and useless.  I’ve also been incorporating ICT into our teaching and learning as I would like them to be confident with it in their future careers.

At Scoresby Secondary College, we celebrate growth and I look forward to working with our colleagues and students and making great progress.
