Occupational Therapy at SPX

Courses Begin in Week 2

Thank you to all families who registered their interest in enrolling students in the after-school onsite courses at the College: The Art of Touch Typing and the Handwriting Skills small group based courses, to be run in Term 3 2016 by an external provider and experienced occupational therapist, Anna Orchard.

 

For any parents/ carers or students who have not yet registered but who would still like to, Anna has advised that there are still places available– contact Anna or Joanne before Friday this week if interested.

 

For the benefit of those who have enrolled, please check your emails for details, and note that ALL courses begin Week 2 (the week beginning Monday 25th July) as follows:

 

Monday - Touch Typing - held in TCR (TAS Computing room)

Tuesday - Touch Typing or Handwriting (mixed group) - in TCR (TAS Computing room)

Wednesday - Handwriting - in TCR (TAS Computing room)

Thursday - Touch Typing - in TCR (TAS Computing room)

Friday - Handwriting – in LC2 (Leary Room 2)

 

Courses run from 3.15pm – to 4.30pm. (Senior school students may arrive by 3.20pm). Please remind students to attend at the correct time, and to bring PLDs or other equipment, as well as a drink or snack if required.

Homework Help Program

Begins Week 2

All students in Years 5 to 12 Welcome!

  • Operates all year round, from Week 2 of each term, and held in in the Senior Library (SRC)
  • Provides a quiet study space for students working on homework, assignments and tasks
  • Available 3 afternoons per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) from 3.15pm - 4.30pm, and is supervised by Learning Support and Enrichment (LSE) Staff
  • No appointment needed, students can attend on one or more afternoon per week, on a regular or occasional basis
  • Supervising teachers include a mix of both junior school and senior school staff, who have specialist knowledge of the curriculum from Years 5 to 12
  • Seminar rooms available for group tasks and activities
  • Students can work independently, or ask for one-to-one assistance as needed for: essay-writing, creative writing, multiple choice and short answer skills, editing and proof reading help, grammar spelling and punctuation tips, help with vocabulary-building, report writing, and more - in all subject areas
  • Includes targeted numeracy help for students as needed, in addition to assistance with assessment task planning, reading and interpretation of assessment task or homework questions, preparing revision notes for a test, understanding assessment task rubrics and assessment criteria, effective research, vocabulary development and reading comprehension – to  aid learning in any subject area
  • Encourages mastery of basic skills through a range of interactive websites and online resources.

Whatever the motivation, all years and levels of ability are welcome to attend, so do encourage students in all years to take advantage of this free service.
