Kokoda Track Success

"Not a Holiday - an Adventure"
Walking the Kokoda Track is a life changing experience. The history, the jungle, the people and the challenge make this a time of growth for all that attempt it. 25 of our College Community (students, parents and staff) completed the 96 km track over a seven day period. This followed six months of practice hikes and training.
Highlights included: village life; being soaking wet when it wasn't raining; seeing and studying various Australian and Japanese war relics; the poems and emotions raised when remembering those lost at each of the key battle sites; navigating the numerous river crossings; land slips, mountains and mud; making many new friendships not just within the group but with our porters and guides; waking up at 4.30am; not waking up at 4.30am; excellent track cuisine; the plane ride out of Kokoda; a helicopter evacuation and appreciating the privileges and responsibilities that we have as Australians.

After the hike we returned to Port Moresby and visited the Bomana War Cemetery. The students held a short memorial for those who were lost, including a prayer and reflection for old boy J. DeSisto who is buried there. The last night included Mass at St Joseph's Church, Boroko.
A big thank you must go to the P&F, the Leadership Team, Mr Sean Brannan, Mr Tim Long, Mr Rob Trodden from On Track Expeditions and the wonderful participants. The people maketh the trip.
