Shrek Jr: The Musical

Production

A part of Year 7 is the performance. You might think that drama is dorky, but it's really, really fun! Think about it, most of the kids you meet in the performance you mightn't have ever talked to them. You make some really good friends and bond with the senior kids. You get the chance to express all your talent, singing, dancing, and sometimes, tapping!
Heather (Year 11), our choreographer, is one of the nicest people I've ever met. She makes and brings fantastic treats on the weekend rehearsals. Yeah, weekend. It isn't the end of the world, you're probably not going to miss out on your ultimate soccer exam (of destiny). Apart from weekend rehearsals and making friends, the whole experience is really, really fun. The costumes are great, and even if you don't have a leading role, you will still stick out in the crowd. It's not a bad thing to look fabulous!
Possibly the only annoying thing about the performance is the makeup! Stage makeup has to be really exaggerated, your foundation has to be darker than your actual skin tone, etc etc! And if you're like me, with zero makeup skill, you have to learn how to do stuff. I remember on one of the matinees, I spilled powder all over my leggings!
It's always kind of sad for the Year 12 kids, as it's their last performance, and, honestly not trying to sound like a mopey person, but they might not see you again. Speaking of last performance, I'd like to take the time to give a shout out to Jessica Adams, who was the fantastic voice of the dragon! That song is one of my favourites and my favourite way to hear it is Jess’s awesome, jazzed up version!
I can't wait to see what our next production might be and I'd encourage everyone to join in if you get the chance.
